3 Steps to Stay with Longer Passages

It happens while reading a long passage, suddenly you realize that you don't remember anything about the passage particularly Psychology. Time is an important factor in GRE and we need to attempt the questions as fast as possible. Below are the few tips one can follow while reading the long passages.

  1. Think like the author -  By imagining authors motivations, you can often end up with a much more vivid picture of the content and purpose of the passage. What is the principal idea the author is trying to get across? If you were the author, how would you express these ideas? Visualizing a real person typing real ideas onto a real computer screen is a great way of plucking abstract notions from the ether and dragging them down to earth
  2. Involve with the passage - The more you involve with the passage, the more clear picture regarding the topic you will gain
  3. Know what not to read - One should understand that all the content present in passage is not necessary to attempt the questions. You need to understand what sentences one can skip to save time. If you don't understand the sentences while reading note down it and move forward; visit later if it comes in any questions

GRE Over GATE

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) is an all India exam conducted for admission to post graduation programs. The total number of seats available in top institutions such as IITs , NITs are around 10,000 but the total applicants are 10 lakhs. The exam is conducted only once a year and if you don't do well you have to wait for one more year.

But in case of Graduate Record Examination(GRE), students can attempt the test any day in the year. If the students don't do well, then students can re-attempt the exam and improve the score. This gives a chance to get admission into better university or college. Most of the Indian students scoring 300+ land up in a good university. They also get an international exposure and great networking. The job opportunities are huge when compared to India and also the salaries are very high. The Return on Investment is only two years which is very less.

What Exactly GRE Tests

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized exam scores accepted by all US universities to compare students applications on same scale. The GRE actually tests student basic Quant and vocabulary skills acquired over the high school and college years. Students from Engineering normally do very well in Quant section and fail to perform in Verbal section. Most of the Indian students lack basic vocabulary skills which can be only acquired by intensive training. The Analytical section tests student ability to analyze an argument or issue and present it logically. Students who gets 300+ in GRE helps to get into a decent university in US.
